Liberty Tax, Inc. does not require a specific package. It is up to the individual franchisee to determine what package is appropriate.
Are there charges that will be incurred in addition to the package charges listed?
There are situations where the price indicated may incur additional charges.
About 1/3 of all counties have surcharges and the counties within each state vary (i.e. some will charge, some will not) however, almost every state imposes some sort of fee for a motor vehicle record check.
Fees can range from as little as $0 up to $65 (in the state of New York for example). If there is a surcharge, the average cost is about $7 per county.
Yes! A MVR can be added to packages for $2.00 per state. Additional services can be ordered and added to create more robust packages that contain more services. MVR is available in all states, however 6 states (Delaware, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Washington) require a special contract document be completed before orders can be processed. If you would like to perform searches in these states, please contract our Customer Service team for additional information.
Widescreen Plus (WS+) is a database search that includes over 190 million records. Data includes criminal court records from state Administrative Offices of Courts, state Departments of Correction, Departments of Public Safety, county-level court records and sex offender registry records from all 50 states, the Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC), and over 30 years’ worth of HireRight proprietary records.
A Widescreen Plus search is considered a "tips and leads" source of information. To ensure that records returned by this database are accurate, current and complete (an FCRA requirement), for all possible records generated by this product, HireRight will automatically perform follow-up record searches at the applicable source courthouse(s), and all such follow-up searches may be billed to the customer at the applicable a la carte rates. Court surcharges may also apply. This two-step process gives you a fast response when no match is found, and if we do report a record, the information is timely, accurate and complete. With this process, you'll have the added reassurance of knowing that both you and HireRight are following state and federal compliance laws.
Known Limitations:
This database search is NOT all-inclusive of records in all 50 states. Many jurisdictions are not available and some states have more coverage than others. The "lag time" varies by jurisdiction so the information in the database may not be available in real-time (for example, some sources are updated quarterly). This is a key reason why court searches are required for any record returned by WS+.
Yes! International background checks can be added to either package. Pricing and products vary for International checks.

To remain compliant, an Employer has 3 primary responsibilities:
- Obtain authorization and consent from the applicant before requesting the background check.
- Offer a copy of the report to the applicant if the applicant resides in CA, MN, or OK.
- If you are not hiring the applicant based on derogatory information in their background check and you are going to take "Adverse Action" (meaning you are not going to hire the person because of it), you are required to send the applicant a series of notifications/letters called Pre-Adverse/Adverse Letters explaining your action and including a copy of the report.
To ensure 100% compliance and a clear understanding of the FCRA, the full FCRA document and requirements can be found on the FTC website at: http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/031224fcra.pdf.
Yes - the FCRA legislation covers all aspects of a background check, including but not limited to criminal checks, MVR's, reference checks, education and employment verifications, drug tests. It is not limited to the credit report.
If you choose to print and send or e-mail the letters yourself, there is no charge. If you configure your account to have HireRight send these letters for you, there is a charge of $6.00 each for a total of $6.00 for those letters to be mailed. This service can only be turned on at your request.
HireRight's application can generate all of the Pre-Adverse/Adverse Letters and information required for you to maintain compliance with the FCRA. From the individual applicants report, you can select the Letters' option and print and mail or e-mail the applicant directly from the individual report. All of the tools for you to maintain compliance are delivered in the HireRight application.
